Roads: the truth about surface dressing

Over £600,000 of improvements work is being carried out this month as part of North Somerset Council’s ongoing commitment to investing in the area’s roads.

The council’s August road surface treatment programme includes both surface dressing and micro asphalt works to fill minor surface irregularities and restore surface condition on 26 of the area’s roads, which adds up to just under 119,000m2 of roads being treated.

School applications needed soon

From next month, you can apply for a school place if your child is due to start school or transfer to a new one next year.

It’s really important that applications are made by the deadline if you want a chance of being offered your preferred school. Parents can name up to three preferences and can apply for schools both within and outside North Somerset.

Improved recycling collections on the way

Residents across North Somerset can expect to see improvements to their recycling and waste collection services over the coming weeks as contractors Biffa put in place further changes to collection rounds to improve their efficiency and reliability.

In June, after months of planning, around 80 per cent of households saw a change to their collection arrangements, which has worked well for the majority of residents, but has caused issues for some.

Watch world-class cyclists whizz by

Tour of Britain cycling posterWorld-class cyclists including Geraint Thomas and Chris Froome will be whizzing along the roads in North Somerset soon as Britain’s premier road cycling event sweeps the country.

Stage 3 of the OVO Energy Tour of Britain takes place on Tuesday 4 September and much of the 128km route is in our area.
